Work starts on 20 new homes in Donnington
Work has started to replace unpopular and out of date blocks of flats with brand new homes at The Common and The Glebelands in Donnington.

The Wrekin Housing Trust has now demolished the blocks of flats, which were built in the 1970s, and has started construction of 20 one and two bedroom houses which will be built to high energy and sustainability standards and will include new parking spaces including visitor spaces, and private gardens.
Neil Warner, Area Manager for the Trust, said: “The decision was made to replace the old flats to provide better homes in the area, as well as improving the appearance of the site as the new properties will be in keeping with other homes in the area. The residents will also enjoy much lower heating costs in these new homes, supporting the Trust’s aims to reduce issues such as fuel poverty.”
The Trust is working with contractor J Harper and Sons to complete the homes, which will be available for affordable rent and will be advertised on the Trust’s website when available. Part of the contractor’s work on site will include working with the local community and schools as part of the Considerate Constructors scheme.
Sarah Flaherty, Development Project Manager, said: “We are really looking forward to seeing this new build scheme completed. It will regenerate the area and offer 20 families a fantastic modern, low energy, brand new home at an affordable rent.”
Work is hoped to be completed in April 2016.
