Trust which runs Shropshire’s two acute hospitals appoints new Chief Executive
The Trust which runs Shropshire’s two acute hospitals has announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive, who will start in the role later this year.

Simon Wright will join The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), which runs the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, this summer. He is currently Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
He will take over the running of SaTH from Peter Herring, who is due to retire from the Trust at the end of July.
Simon said: “I was really delighted to have the opportunity during the recruitment process to meet so many members of the great team at SaTH, as well as local patient representatives and partners.
“I was really struck by the strong focus on caring and compassion that I found right across the Trust, which gave me every confidence that this was exactly the right place for me to take on a Chief Executive role. I will be joining the Trust this summer and really look forward to playing such a vital role for the health and wellbeing of patients and communities across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.”
Peter Herring, who announced in February that he will be retiring from SaTH at the end of July, welcomed the appointment of Simon as his successor.
He said: “In Simon Wright, the Trust has made a great appointment for its next Chief Executive. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity over the coming months to work with him to hand over this role.
“I would really like to thank the many patients, staff and partners who were involved in this intensive recruitment process; which involved tours, stakeholder panels and Values-based interviews to provide candidates with an opportunity to gain a deep understanding of this organisation and our communities, and vice versa.
“There has already been such a positive response to Simon’s appointment, both from people working with him in his current role and the many people who have had an opportunity to meet him through the recruitment process.”
