Police are appealing for witnesses and information following an assault on a man in Wellington.

Police investigate assault on man in Wellington

The incident happened between 8am and 8.10am on Wednesday 13 May on St John Street.

The victim, a 42-year-old man, was walking when he was approached by another man who physically assaulted him. A second male offender also began to join in the assault, which is believed to have lasted for around five to ten minutes. The victim sustained minor injuries during the incident.

One of the men then made off towards Wellington town, turning left at the end of St John Street, and the second man turned right onto High Street.

Both offenders were Asian, six foot, of a muscular build, with short black hair and full beards. The first was in his early 20s, wearing a dark coloured collarless shirt, dark navy jeans and black safety boots with steel toecaps. The second was wearing a black fleece top, black jeans and white Adidas trainers with beige stripes.

Anyone who witnessed the assault or who saw men of these descriptions in the area is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident 216S of Thursday 14 May.

Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org
