Entertainment for all the family at the Shropshire County Show

Thousands of people will be visiting the Shropshire County Show at the Greenhous West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury today.

The event is a celebration of the rural community and to highlight the role it plays in our daily lives, from livestock to local businesses and local produce.

Shropshire's Young Farmers have been busy gearing up for the annual show, this year the theme for the Young Farmers marquee is ‘Safari’, with the annual parade of floats showcasing “Cities Around the World.”

Over thirty competitions will be taking place in the Shropshire YFC marquee, offering an opportunity for all to take part. Classes include flower arranging, cookery, creative arts and crafts and in true Young Farmer style, there will also be light-hearted active competitions such as the loudest Tarzan call and the best dressed “Tarzan and Jane.”

The YFC float parade is one of the main attractions of the Shropshire Show, drawing large crowds around the main ring. After weeks of hard work, only one of the 18 clubs from across the county will win the prestigious cup for the best float. Further entertainment from the members will take place in the main ring, in the form of Safari Jeep Racing.

Headlining the show will be the Steve Colley Motorbike Stunt display team, with other entertainment including tractor pulling, a vintage vehicle display and a falconry display by Cuerden Birds of Prey.

The Balfours Inter Hunt Relay with a twist will also entertain visitors where quad bikes and terriers all join in a fun packed competition between two local hunts.

This year’s event will also be incorporating the Shropshire County Horse Show, along with other attractions including a Kids Zone with plenty of free activities, an Edible Shropshire food area, shopping and crafts plus lots more.

This year the Show have developed a new Country Side area where bushcraft, Leather workers, basket weavers and Wood Carvers will be in attendance, as well as a dedicated Country Pursuits area offering, Rock Climbing and also the 21st century transport of segway riding.
