Taxi driver robbed after picking up fare in Ironbridge

The incident took place between 10pm and 10:40pm when the driver picked up a pre-booked fare from The Golden Ball on Newbridge Road in Ironbridge.

A man and woman got into the taxi and after speaking briefly with the victim, the man grabbed his neck from behind and verbally threatened him with a knife, however no knife was seen by the victim during the incident.

The victim handed over a bag of money containing around £50, the male suspect got out of the taxi and kicked the drivers door which prevented the victim from getting out. The woman also then got out of the taxi and they both ran from the scene, down the hill towards Ironbridge.

The victim suffered minor injuries to the head.

The suspects are described as a man and woman aged 25-27 and 23-25 respectively. The man is described as around 5'8" in height of a 'fit' build with very short brown hair. The woman is thought to be around 5'4" in height, of an average build with dark brown hair.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101, quoting incident 770 of 9th June 2015. Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or their website at: Crimestoppers UK
