Dunne backs fundraising efforts for Church Stretton pool
South Shropshire MP Philip Dunne is backing efforts by campaigners in Church Stretton to raise funds to restore the local swimming pool.
They are hoping to raise more than £200,000 to modernise the 20m pool, which is now over 40 years old. The pool is well used by members of the public and the local school.
Mr Dunne said: “I am pleased local campaigners are taking such a proactive step to save the community pool in Church Stretton.
The swimming pool is used by Church Stretton residents of all generations, with youngsters learning to swim and others swimming for rehabilitation and exercise there.
The pool was originally opened in 1971 thanks to the generosity of local people. But modernisation is badly needed to keep the pool open to the public.
I am keen to help Church Stretton residents in supporting these fundraising efforts and help sustain local swimming for future generations.”
