Fears are growing that a hearing support group that meets in Shrewsbury may have to close if a new chairperson cannot be found to run it.

Shrewsbury hearing group may close if new Chairperson is not found

Shrewsbury Hard of Hearing Group has around 45 members for whom a loop system and also a text-to-screen system is in operation, where a typist writes as a speaker talks so that even the deafest members can follow the conversation.

The group is a lifeline of support and companionship for many people but may have to close if a new chairperson does not come forward.

Monthy meetings are held at the United Reform Church Hall, in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury usually on the second Monday of the month at 2pm providing a guest speaker, followed by tea, chat and a raffle and new members are always made most welcome.

Shropshire RCC and the Audiology department of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital working closely to attract a new chairperson, who’s role would involve attending six committee meetings a year as well as administration and organisational tasks.

Anyone wishing to help should contact Rachel Whitney on 01743 342163 or email shls@shropshire-rcc.org.uk
