Work has started to demolish the Wellington Bus Depot to make way for 31 new affordable homes.

Demolition starts to make way for new homes at Wellington Bus Depot site

The new homes, which received planning in June, will consist of one bedroom apartments and two bedroom houses, which are being funded by The Wrekin Housing Trust with additional grant funding for the scheme from the Homes and Communities Agency.

The Trust will manage the new homes, and are working with local partners Telford & Wrekin Council, Wellington Town Council and developer Jessup to complete the project which will go towards meeting the need for affordable homes in Wellington.

The new homes will also bring additional benefits to the area in the form of jobs and a boost to local business, with £7.7million generated to the economy and the creation of over 71 jobs including apprenticeships.

All of the new properties will have their own gardens and parking.

Matt Winn, Assistant Project Manager for the Trust, said: "We’re pleased to see the first activity on the site. Work will start on the construction of the homes shortly and we hope to have them complete and ready for people to move into in September 2016. This development will be a really great addition to the area."
