Par 5 Foundation Charity gives £500 to Telford Hospital’s Neonatal Unit
Today John Richards, the professional at Shrewsbury Golf Club received a £500 cheque from the Par 5 Foundation after participating in their charity golf tournament at Oswestry.

The Cheque was made out to Shrewsbury Golf Club’s Captains’ Charity, The Neonatal Unit at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford. The Par 5 Charity is looking to expand its charitable works into Shrewsbury and the cheque marks an initial interest in supporting charities at a range of community clubs in the area.
The Par 5 Foundation was founded in 2007 when David Hughes became Captain of Hennlle Park Golf Club. It is traditional for the Captain of a golf club to elect a charity for the club to support during the year. David was keen to make more of a lasting contribution and founded the Par 5 Foundation. “I felt that some continuity was needed to raise money for hospitals, homes for the aged, orphanages or other such institutions which provide direct or indirect help to disadvantaged people within the area. Founding a charity seemed the best way to achieve this,” said David.
The charity raises money through a number of fun activities that generate valuable funds while people enjoy themselves. The latest event was a golf day held at Oswestry Golf Club where both professional and amateur players came together to play in teams for exciting prizes while raising thousands of pounds for good causes. John Richards, the professional at Shrewsbury Golf Club was the winning professional and was awarded a cheque of £500 for the Club’s charity, PRH’s Neonatal Unit. “It was a pleasure to play in the tournament to support the excellent work that the Par 5 Foundation does. PRH’s neonatal unit is Shrewsbury Golf Club’s Captains’ Charity for this year and I know this money will help them to save babies’ lives,” said John.
The Par 5 Foundation is expanding steadily across Shropshire and a number of organisations are benefiting from the funding it raises. Shrewsbury Golf Club are working with the Par 5 Foundation to host a future golfing tournament in support of their excellent Charity.
