The skies over Shropshire were lit up with lightning yesterday evening as a large thunder storm passed over.
The storm, which tracked north from Herefordshire, passed mostly over central Shropshire with Ludlow, Shrewsbury and the north east of the county seeing most of the rain and lightning.
Shropshire residents reported strong gusts of winds with heavy rain during the storm which lasted around 30 minutes.
Flash flooding was also reported in many parts of the county as drains failed to cope with the amount of rain.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a number of reports of flooding. In Newport they attended a call to a person who had possibly been struck by lightning, but after investigating it was believed to a false alarm.
The volatile weather is thought to be down to the so-called ‘Spanish Plume’ that pushed hot, unstable air from France into the UK.
