Another man who had been present with the victim tried to intervene and sustained an injury to his hand.

Both were taken by ambulance to Princess Royal Hospital for treatment.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened at around 7:40am on Tuesday.

Following the assault, the suspect entered the services area. He was wearing a light coloured hooded top with horizontal blue lines on it.

Police say the weapon used in the attack is currently still missing, it is described as having a red handle and could either be a penknife or a fixed bladed knife.

DS John Weaver of West Mercia Police said: “We wish to appeal for any further witnesses to the incident to come forward and for anyone finding such a knife in the vicinity of the motorway services to contact the police."

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH and has been released on police bail until 16 October.

If anyone witnessed the incident, or has any information relating to it, please call 101, quoting the number 67s of 15 September 2015. Alternatively, you can contact the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
