Gift to Shropshire medical practice helping patients
Shropshire patients are receiving an early diagnosis of potential health problems due to the charitable donation of a medical aid.

Six patients at Beeches Medical Practice in Bayston Hill, were referred to hospital for treatment in the first week of staff receiving the hand held Pulse Oximeter machine from “the smile goes on appeal.”
The machine, which measures the amount of oxygen in the blood and blood pressure, was handed over by Colin Pettener in memory of his wife Mavis, who died on Christmas Day last year.
“Mavis wanted us to provide whatever the surgery needed to help others,” said Colin, of Broadoak Crescent, Bayston Hill.
“The staff told me that six people with no apparent symptoms have been referred to hospital after readings from the machine. So it is helping to diagnose people early.”
Sister Hilary Holt said it was “an amazing” piece of equipment which recorded oxygen levels.
“It’s making a huge difference. This is our second Pulse Oximeter and it is being well used.”
The Mavis Pettener Memorial Fund has also bought four lightweight wheelchairs for Severn Hospice.
Funds were raised by friends and family and staff at Shropshire’s TTC Group in Telford, a road safety and learning and development organisation.
