A jury has returned a verdict of accidental death at the inquest of a Shrewsbury Town fan who died while trying to save his brother from an oncoming tube train.

Shrewsbury Town fan Nick Mann's tube station death ruled to be accidental

Nick Mann, 35, who grew up in Shrewsbury, was killed as he attempted to rescue his brother Robert who had fallen onto the tracks at Old Street Underground station in March.

Nick was trying to pull him to safety as a Northern Line train collided with them at around 12.20am.

Mr Mann, who lived with his wife Jennifer Kavanagh in Wimbledon, received first aid from off-duty paramedics and a doctor before being rushed to Royal London Hospital in the early hours of March 29.

He had spent Saturday with his brother watching Shrewsbury Town beat Portsmouth away, before going to a gig in London.

Peter Darling, an inspector for the Office of Rail and Road investigations, told the court his investigations had found "no breach of health and safety" and called the death a "tragic accident".

A jury at St Pancras Coroners Court recorded that the death was an accident after direction from Coroner Mary Hassell.

It is believed Mr Mann's brother Robert is still making his recovery following the incident.
