Police in Shrewsbury have released the name of a missing man they have been searching for since Tuesday evening.

Police name missing Shrewsbury man as Thomas Bebbington

The man is 22-year-old Thomas Bebbington from Shrewsbury. The last reported sighting was of him entering the River Severn in the area around the Dana Steps in Shrewsbury at around 7.20 on Tuesday evening and he has not been seen or heard from since.

Police have been joined in the search of the river by Shropshire Fire and Rescue, the National Police Air Service, Severn Area Rescue Association and underwater search teams.

Inspector Edward Hancox said: "We are keeping an open mind regarding Thomas's disappearance and whilst a lot of our focus has been on the river in the area where he went missing we have also been carrying out other enquiries in the surrounding area in the hope of locating him. He was not seen to exit the river, but we cannot rule this out.

"The search has continued today and will continue over the weekend. I'd appeal for anyone who sees Thomas or who has information that can help us to locate him to contact us. We're also keen to speak to anyone that was in the area around the Dana Steps on Tuesday evening.

"Thomas's family are being kept fully informed regarding the search and are being supported by officers."

Thomas is described as being white with a tanned complexion, 6 foot 2 inches tall, with dark brown hair.
