Building work has begun on the infrastructure of the next phase of new homes to be built in Lawley, Telford.

Work starts on new phase of Lawley village

The village is one of the largest sustainable urban, residential led, developments of its kind in the UK, and will eventually provide 3,500 homes, alongside new health, education, retail and leisure facilities.

Three builders, David Wilson Homes, Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey, which are all part of the Lawley Village Developer Group (LVDG), will create more than 560 new homes during the development of phase eight.

Work has got under way after Telford planners gave the scheme the go-ahead earlier this year.

Five phases of the new village, just off junction 6 of the M54, are still due to be developed after Phase 8 taking building work through to 2028, producing a total of 3,500 homes.

So far, the LVDG, which also comprises of Barratt Homes and Charles Church, is a third of the way through the development having already built 1,200 homes.

Guy Scott, Director for LVDG, said: “Obviously we are delighted that work has started on the next phase of Lawley Village. We are not only providing new homes and a new community, but securing further employment for local contractors. These are exciting times for Lawley.”

Improvements to the infrastructure in the area continue to be undertaken, with a new traffic junction serving Phase 8 and a footbridge is also being built over Lawley Drive towards the end of the year.

Work started on phase one of Lawley Village in February 2007. Phase two saw the development of Lawley Square, with phase four now finished. Phase three is due to be completed next March and phase 6 by the end of 2016. Work on phase five has yet to start.

Mr Scott added that Lawley also included a selection of retailers, a supermarket, a very popular pub, a care home, Lawley and Overdale Parish Council offices, food outlets, health care and public open spaces and parks.

A new primary school in the village also welcomed its first pupils this month. Lawley Village Primary Academy will spend its first term based at Lawley Village Management Centre, prior to its anticipated move into a new purpose-built school just South of Lawley Village Square in January 2016.

“A wonderful community spirit is developing in Lawley as each phase of building comes together. The developers hope to have their first completions on Phase 8 by the start of next year as more people move into this great location,” added Mr Scott.
