Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service send Water Rescue Unit to Cumbria
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service's Water Rescue Unit was last night mobilised to Cumbria following major flooding in the area.
The Shropshire boat rescue team have been deployed to assist Cumbria Fire and Rescue after 18 hours of heavy rain in the area.
People were evacuated from their homes as flash flooding swept through parts of Cumbria, and police in the area declared a "major incident".
The deluge left streets lined with terraced houses looking more like rivers as rescue teams rescue stranded locals.
Bridges collapsed, rivers burst their banks and landslides were triggered as torrential rain swept through large swathes of the north of England and Scotland.
More than 55,000 homes are also without power in Cumbria and Lancashire due to severe weather caused by Storm Desmond.
