The incident is reported to have happened on Victoria Road, when a car was in collision with an 11 year-old girl as she crossed the road.

The girl sustained injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

The vehicle did not stop and is thought to have travelled in the direction of King Street.

Police are keen to speak to the driver of a grey/silver Renault Megane in connection with the incident.

PC Richard Gurmin, the investigating officer, said: "We are taking this incident very seriously and are eager to hear from anyone who saw this take place. The young girl could have easily been injured to a much greater extent."
