Heavy rain caused flash flooding in parts of Shropshire last night with emergency services called to several incidents.

Heavy rain causes flash flooding in Shropshire

In Ruyton X1 Towns five properties on Princess Terrace were flooded by several feet of water which had run off a nearby field. One elderly man was rescued by firefighters and checked over by ambulance personnel following flooding in his home.

Two Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service crews were sent to the scene at around 8.40pm to help disperse flood water using pumps.

In Weston Rhyn, a female driver called emergency services just before 7pm after becoming trapped in flood water with two children. She managed to get clear of the flood water before emergency services arrived. All three were checked over by an ambulance crew.

Firefighters were also called to a factory in Oswestry at just before 11.30pm following flooding in a production area. Firefighters used sandbags used to divert water to nearby culvert.

Motorists also reported standing water on many of the counties roads.

Flooding on the A5 at Chirk has closed road between the A483 at the Halton Roundabout and the B5605.
