Cllr Shaun Davies, Chair of Great Dawley Town Council said: "The budget received unanimous support with all 3 political parties on the Town Council voting in favour of the budget, the budget is a real positive step forward for the Community of Great Dawley. The Town Council will invest in regeneration and the prosperity of its parish area, as well as provide the ongoing support to its community.”

The priorities driving the decisions made at the meeting ensure the Town Council protects its core values of continuing to provide an exciting programme of events, the grant schemes for local community groups, gardening service for the over 70’s, Christmas Parties and community buildings which provide a focal point for local groups and residents to enjoy a wide range of activities. As well as continuing with the environmental programme in supporting the hanging baskets in the High Street, Parish Environmental Team and the sweeper.

Dawley Day and Malinslee Day will continue and Christmas Lights in both Dawley and Malinslee centre will be modernised.

The decision made by the Town Council to increase its precept by 71 pence per week for band A properties in the Great Dawley area, the first increase for 3 years will expand the Town Council’s event programme by supporting the Community Projects & Events Officer’s to increase the number of events held, will see two empty building in Dawley refurbished and brought back into community use – The Hub and the former Lord Hill site, secure the dedicated resource for community safety within our neighbourhoods, opening the Christmas Parties grant scheme to both older peoples groups and youth group and will provide a Partnership Enabling Fund to assist the Town Council to discuss future service provision within the area.

Cllr Jane Pinter, Chair of the Executive Committee said "The discussion held between Councillors at the meeting and the decision made for the increase was not taken lightly by any of our Councillors, but we all understand that by making this small increase Great Dawley Town Council will be able to make a greater impact in our area and this is a benefit for everyone. This budget is about making change work for our community."

The news comes as Great Dawley Town Council has agreed in principle to take over the Library Provision and the weekly market, subject to details working agreements, consultation and review of how the services are operated.
