Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault that took place in Oswestry town centre last Sunday.

Police seek witnesses after man suffers head injury in Oswestry assault

The incident occurred sometime between 3am - 4am in the early hours of the morning in Claddu Passage, an alleyway between Willow Street and Bailey Street.

The victim, a man is his thirties, left Gibsons nightclub in New Street shortly before the assault took place, which resulted in him being taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

PC Dave Wagg who is investigating the assault said: "This was an unprovoked assault on the victim which has resulted in him sustaining serious injuries and being left unconscious.

"Somebody may have seen or heard something of this incident as it would have been busy in the general area with people leaving Gibsons nightclub and waiting for taxis at the end of the evening."

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or anyone who saw the victim, who was wearing a black jacket, jeans and distinctive multi-coloured Converse footwear, at the time.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident number 180s of 22 February. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or by visiting the website: www.crimestoppers-uk.org
