Visitors yesterday enjoyed free admission to a number of Ironbridge Gorge Museum sites to celebrate the 30th anniversary of UNESCO’s designation of the Ironbridge Gorge as a World Heritage Site.
Residents who live in Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire could choose to spend the free day at Blists Hill Victorian Town, Enginuity, Coalport China Museum or Jackfield Tile Museum.
They could also choose to walk in the footsteps of ironmasters and visit their former homes, the Darby Houses. Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron and Tar Tunnel were also open as part of the celebration.
Ironbridge was one of the first seven UK sites to be granted World Heritage status in 1986 in recognition of the area’s unique contribution to the birth of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, the impact of which was felt across the world.
