Greenhous Meadow could soon host concerts

Greenhous Meadow, home of Shrewsbury Town FC, has been earmarked as a possible venue to host additional music concerts.

Greenhous Meadow could soon host concerts

Shropshire Council have given the green light for Shrewsbury to expand the number of car parking places on Oteley Road to 1000.

With this in mind, the club are exploring additional ways to increase the types of entertainment hosted at the stadium.

When the Meadow was built in 2007, there were conditions stopping a number of events, without prior permission from the council.

However, the club have argued they deserve more flexibility, and Shropshire Council have agreed they can hold six events a year.

Stuart Thomas of Berry’s representing Shrewsbury Town said: “There is a lack of appropriate venues in Shropshire to host such events and sporting stadiums naturally lend themselves to these concerts at this scale.

“The primary use of the stadium would of course remain for footballing purposes for the majority of the year and therefore the proposal would be to place an upper limit of six events during any calendar year.”

Elton John was the last person to perform at the Greenhous Meadow in 2011.

Further consultation is planned for this Thursday.
