Wife of patient taken ill in Thailand thanks well-wishers

The wife of a man who is being treated by The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust after being taken ill in Thailand has thanked well-wishers for their messages of support.

Yvonne Masters said she also wanted to thank medical staff in Thailand and the UK after her husband Chris was taken ill while on holiday last month.

Chris is now being treated in the Intensive Therapy Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, where he arrived this morning.

Yvonne said: “I would like to thank everybody for their kind words and thoughts over the last few days. I would also like to thank MAPFRE Assistance, our travel insurance company, for ensuring Chris was safely transferred to the UK.

“I would also like to say a particular thank you to the Doctors and Nurses in the hospitals in Phuket and Bangkok and to the medical staff here in Shropshire for the way they have cared for Chris.

“I know that there are only a limited number of critical care beds in the county and that one cannot just be made available at the drop of a hat and I would like to thank everybody for their hard work in ensuring that we could get Chris home as soon as possible."

Yvonne said she would now like some privacy in order to concentrate on working with the medical team at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital to get Chris better.
