Next stage of Severn Trent work to begin in Shrewsbury

Residents in the Weeping Cross area of Shrewsbury are today invited to a drop-in session by Severn Trent to hear more about the next part of its plans to make water supplies in the area more reliable.

The work is part of a £2 million investment in Shrewsbury which the company began last year.

Gareth Mead, from Severn Trent Water, said: “We’d encourage local people to come along, meet the team, and learn more about our next part of work, while also giving their views – after all, the people who know the area best are the local residents. This work could be tricky, and while we think we’ve found the best way of laying the pipes with the minimum impact, we’re hoping that, by talking to the community, they’ll help us to find those little gems of information which can make a huge difference to our plans.

“As local residents will know, we’ve been working in Roman Road between Meole Brace roundabout and Longden roundabout using a one way system, we expect to have this part of the project completed by late April – which is two weeks earlier than we had planned. Work will then move onto Roman Road between the Porthill roundabout and Longdon roundabout again using a one way system, but this time traffic will only be able to flow towards the Porthill roundabout, but more information about this will be available at the drop-in session.

“We know that we may cause some inconvenience for the local community, and we’d like to apologise to anyone who will be affected. This work is importance and will help us to keep the water running for our customers for many years to come.”

The drop-in session will take place at Louise House, Roman Road, between 4pm and 7pm.
