The great and the good of Shrewsbury have been officially recognised by the Mayor for playing a key part in helping to make the town a special place to live, work and visit.

Around 60 of the town’s most dedicated citizens and organisations received honours from Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Miles Kenny, at this year’s Mayor’s Awards ceremony, which took place at the Guildhall on Wednesday evening.
The overall winners in each category were; Business – Salop Design & Engineering; Built Heritage – River Thai Restaurant; Community – Safe Places Shropshire; Environment – The Rubbish Diet; Youth – Shropshire Members of Youth Parliament; Tourism – Shropshire Festivals and Courtesy – Tweet Up Shrewsbury.
The results for this year’s Market Trader of the Year for Shrewsbury Market Hall, which is part run by the Council, were also revealed at the event. Nearly 500 votes were cast and the overall winner was tapas restaurant, Café Aleoli, closely followed by Snapdragon Wholefoods in second place and JP Fruits in third place.
The Mayor also presented nine personal awards to individuals and organisations met throughout his mayoral year that he felt had made significant contribution to the town. Certificates were presented to; Paul Bowes, Holly Edwards, Corrine Hollick, Katie Jennings, Ryan & Jane Jervis, Lynne Morgan, Shelley Oliver, Bernard Wills and Two Fat Rascals café.
Councillor Kenny said: “It was a great evening celebrating those wonderful people and organisations who go that extra mile in making our town such a great place to be. I was so pleased to reward those who had given up their time and energy for our benefit and the benefit of others. Shrewsbury would be a lesser place without our local heroes. Congratulations to all.”
