Cllr Shaun Davies was last night elected as the new Leader of the ruling Labour Group on Telford & Wrekin Council at its AGM meeting.

The Labour Group has wholeheartedly welcomed his election and has given its full backing and support to Cllr Davies who, if elected as Leader at the Telford & Wrekin Council AGM at the end of May, will become one of the youngest Council Leaders in the country.
Cllr Davies has led on a number of innovative flagship projects across the Council since his election and appointment to Cabinet in 2011 including a programme which has seen Youth Unemployment reduce by more than 50%, the Pride in Your Community Programme which has seen numerous investments right across Telford & Wrekin, the Council’s Housebuilding programme, Growth Package & £40million HCA Land Deal and the Solar Farm Project.
Shaun Davies said: “It is an honour and privilege to have been elected as Leader of the Labour Group and I am thrilled that my fellow group members have put trust and belief in me. I am passionate about my town and the people who live and work here. Telford is my home town, the place where I was born and grew up in and, if elected as Leader of the Council at the end of May, I will do my utmost to continue with the excellent work and legacy of my ward colleague and my friend Cllr Kuldip Sahota who has lead the party with great dignity, compassion and fairness. We will continue to work closely together to represent the people of the Mailinslee and Dawley Bank Ward."
Cllr Rob Sloan, Chair of the Labour Group commenting on behalf of the Labour Group said: “The Labour Group are extremely delighted with this new appointment and Cllr Shaun Davies received a warm and overwhelming endorsement of his leadership from the Group on Thursday evening. He certainly has the enthusiasm, commitment, energy and vision needed to take Telford & Wrekin Council forward in these very challenging economic times. The group also thanked Kuldip for his work as leader and applauded the achievements he has overseen since 2011 during what has been extremely tough financial times.
Cllr Richard Overton was confirmed as the Group Deputy Leader and will remain Deputy Leader of the Council.
