A man narrowly avoided injury after being shot at with what's thought to be an air gun at Rea Brook Valley Nature Reserve on Saturday.

West Mercia Police say the incident occurred on the reserve as the man walked his dog between 5.30pm and 6pm.

The victim described three air pellets narrowly missing him.

A police spokesperson said: "Patrol officers attended the area after the incident was reported but no suspect could be found.

"It is an offence to fire a missile beyond any premises boundary from an air weapon. Police can also prosecute for assault should a missile be fired at a person with intent to cause injury.

"Police from the Safer Neighbourhood Team will be providing extra patrols in the area in a bid to locate any offenders and provide extra reassurance to the public."

Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to contact Shrewsbury police on 101 quoting incident reference 0508S 300416.
