Competitors from across the UK will descend on Shrewsbury this weekend for the annual Shrewsbury Regatta.

Organised by Pengwern Boat Club, the two-day event will take place from 8.30am to 6pm on both days from the Pengwern Boat Club in Kingsland.

Saturday sees competitors tested along a 1,000km course while Sunday is dedicated to a 500m sprint course.

Members of the public can watch the event for free from banks of the River Severn.

Last year the regatta was called off for the second time in its history after safety concerns were raised over rising water levels on the River Severn.
