Police are investigating the rape of a woman in Telford and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Police launch rape investigation in Telford

The offence is believed to have taken place on a pathway across a small field in between Trench Road and Lennox Road, opposite the old location of The Sutherland School between 10pm and midnight yesterday.

Detective Inspector Rob Mountford, who is leading the investigation, said:

"We are conducting thorough forensic searches of the area where the offence is reported to have taken place. Detectives are searching CCTV footage and conducting house to house enquiries in an effort to identify the offender as soon as possible.

"The scene of the offence has been identified within walking distance of the Duke of York pub, given the time the offence took place I would urge anyone who was in the pub yesterday evening to come forward to police. Similarly anyone who was in the local area visiting pubs or food outlets between the hours of 10pm and midnight is urged to get in touch; you could hold key information to assist us in identifying who is responsible.

"This offence is undoubtedly concerning for the local community and we are working hard to identify the offender as quickly as possible. The victim is being fully supported by specially trained officers and this will continue throughout the process."

Anyone who has any further information or saw anything suspicious is asked to contact Telford CID by dialling 101 and using the extension 5015.
