Telford rape investigation no longer being treated as sexual assault

An investigation relating to an incident which took place in Trench, Telford on Wednesday 8 June is no longer being investigated as a sexual assault.

Detective Inspector Rob Mountford led the investigation. He said:

"Following a report of a rape in Trench, Telford on Wednesday 8 June, I can confirm that the incident is no longer being investigated as a sexual assault, however our enquiries continue in order to ascertain whether an offence of another nature took place. The woman will continue to be fully supported by specially trained officers throughout this process.

"We understand that following allegations of this nature the local community will be, understandably, concerned and we would like to thank both the local community and the media for their support following our appeal for witnesses.

"We understand that victims of sexual offences often find it difficult to come forward to police but we would like to offer our assurances that anyone who makes a report will be fully supported and offered guidance throughout the investigation. They will be treated in a caring and sensitive manner and their wishes on how they would like to progress will be taken into consideration."

Anyone who has any further information or saw anything suspicious is asked to contact Telford CID by dialling 101 and using the extension 5015.
