The incident happened on Church Street, Oswestry between 3.45pm and 4.15pm. Witnesses reported seeing the victim in a blue Fiat Punto on Church Street. Two men were also in the vehicle and are believed to be known to her.

The 49-year-old victim is believed to have been shouting to be let out of the vehicle. The two men are thought to have physically assaulted her while inside the car.

A short time later, police received a report stating the victim had been taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for treatment.

A 47-year-old man from Oswestry has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and is on bail until Thursday 14 July.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Nia Fletcher, said: "This was a violent assault that we are taking extremely seriously and I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to any one who saw anything to please come forward. Anything you saw may significantly help our investigation."
