Runners set for today's Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Half Marathon
Today's Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Half Marathon is expected to see around 1,700 runners take to the streets of Shrewsbury.

The 13.1 mile route will take in the picturesque scenes of the stunning historic town centre including St Chad’s Church, Shrewsbury Cathedral and the Quarry, ending up at the West Mid Showground.
Organiser, Joe Williams of UKRunChat, decided cap the entry as it’s his first year in charge and he wants to build a solid foundation for future growth.
“I go to places like Chester who have 5,000 people running their half marathon and I see no reason why we couldn’t have the same number of entries in Shrewsbury,” said Joe, who is himself a runner.
“Shrewsbury is my home town and I would love to grow the event. We have attracted some really quick runners this year who will complete the half marathon in sub one hour 10 minutes. It is registered with UK Athletics and the runners can earn points.”
Participants of all ages and volunteers will receive a Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital T-shirt and a stunning race medal.
Bibtag timing will be used for the first time for the 2016 event.
Mike Haffenden, Hospital Director at Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital: “We are absolutely delighted to have UKRunChat organising the Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Half Marathon for us in 2016. The run is an annual highlight in the Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital calendar. The atmosphere is unbelievable and it’s always very uplifting to see our consultants, surgeons and staff also taking part in their neon Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital running shirts!”
