Plans in place for completion of Limekiln Bank Roundabout works

Telford & Wrekin Council today confirmed plans for work on Limekiln Bank Roundabout to be finished.

Plans in place for completion of Limekiln Bank Roundabout works

The majority of work has already been completed on the roundabout as part of the council’s Growth Point package of improvements to key gateways around the borough.

However, work at Limekiln Bank has had to be temporarily suspended due to the utility companies not completing their work in accordance with the agreed programme.

The utility work was planned and agreed with the relevant companies during the design of the main contract in 2015.

Following discussion with the utility companies and the roundabout contractor, Telford & Wrekin Council has agreed a way forward to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.

It is now expected that the roundabout works will be finished at the end of September.

Traffic management will be rationalised during this period by opening as much of the roundabout as possible and adding temporary lining to help traffic flow through the roundabout while the work is completed.

To allow the temporary lining to be added, four way temporary traffic lights will be used. However, this work will be carried out overnight to avoid disruption to the travelling public.

The temporary lights will be in use for one night between 9pm on Tuesday 5 July and 6am on Wednesday 6 July.

Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Transport, said: “It is obviously regrettable that the work at Limekiln Bank has not been able to be completed as scheduled but this is due to factors beyond our control.

“We have now put in place a plan to enable traffic to flow as smoothly as possible during the summer until the utility companies concerned can complete their works.

“We hope the improved and enhanced roundabout will be fully open by the end of September. I would like to thank everyone affected by the works for their co-operation and understanding.”
