A police incident closed the M54 in both directions for a time this afternoon.

M54 reopens following police incident which closed both directions

The M54 was closed between junctions 6 and 7 at Telford after emergency services received a report of concern for the welfare of a woman at around 1.15pm.

West Mercia Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene at one of the motorway bridges.

Traffic in both directions of the M54 and the A5 from the Shrewsbury direction was reported to be at a standstill. The Old A5 between Wellington and Shrewsbury was also reported to be very heavily congested.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "The situation has now been safely resolved. Many thanks to those affected for their patience and understanding."
