Firefighters tackled a fire involving around 200 tonnes of hay bales at Ellerdine Heath early this morning.

Crews were called to the fire just off City Road at around 2.20am.

Four fire appliances including the Light Pumping Unit were mobilised from Hodnet, Prees and Wellington along with an operations officer.

Crews protected an adjacent stack of hay bales, trees and a nearby hedge using hose reel jets and one main jet with water supplied from the pumping unit.
