RJAH’s League of Friends donates £150,000 to new Tumour Unit
The League of Friends of The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital has presented the Bone Tumour team with a bumper cheque for £150,000.

League members have been tirelessly fundraising to support the hospital and, in particular recently, our Bone Cancer Centre Appeal. They have raised the funds in a number of ways across their branches, including coffee mornings, a summer fete, a cricket match and grand draws in this year alone.
Their contribution has been crucial to the success of the £500,000 appeal, which has contributed towards the £15.1 million cost of a major Theatre and Ward development at the Oswestry-based hospital. The development includes state-of-the art inpatient and outpatient facilities for bone tumour patients, as well as four new Theatres, a Day Surgery Unit and a new High Dependency Unit.
Chief Executive Mark Brandreth and Chairman Frank Collins received the cheque from League representatives outside the finished building.
Mark said: “It’s an incredible honour to have such a proactive League of Friends. The amount of money they raise for us day-in-day-out is staggering. To receive this cheque means so much for our new development.
“It means we can keep supporting our staff so they can continue to provide high quality care for our patients.
“The volunteers represent the Trust in a fantastic way – the shop and café comforts patients and gives them an excellent first impression of the great service they will experience at RJAH.”
Frank said: “Yet again I am in awe of the support the Trust receives from the local community. They really believe in the amazing work the staff do here, as I do.
“I can’t imagine having the hospital without the army of volunteers the League of Friends has here to support us.”
Tricia Norris, Chairman of the League, said: “This cheque represents the culmination of a significant period of fundraising from the League of Friends. We are thrilled to be supporting the new unit, Mr Cool and his team.
“The work they do to treat tumour patients is world class. We hope this donation helps them to keep it that way.”
To date the league has raised over £4 million pounds for the RJAH, buying much needed equipment and helping to fund cutting edge research.
