West Mercia Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses or information following a sexual assault in Wellington last Sunday.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses following sexual assault in Wellington

The incident happened at around 12.15pm, when a woman in her 60s was walking on the footpath along Whitchurch Drive in the direction of Leegomery.

As she walked through an underpass below Whitchurch Drive, an unknown man approached her from behind and placed his hand across her mouth. He then touched her inappropriately over her clothes.

The victim called out for her partner and the suspect then left along the footpath in the direction of Hadley.

The offender is described as a white man in his early twenties, approximately 5'8" or 5'9" tall and of a medium build. He was described as having 'a fresh looking complexion' and was believed to be wearing dark clothing including dark-coloured jeans, a black-hooded top with the hood up and a dark baseball cap with a beige peak showing.

Officers continue to ask anyone who has information about the incident to get in touch by calling 101, quoting incident number 374S of 2 October 2016.

Information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org
