Bridgnorth was today named as one of the finalists in The Great British High Street 2016 awards.
Listed as a finalist in the Large Market Town category the town faces competition from Hinckley and Market Harborough in Leicestershire.
All three category finalists will now go through to a public online vote and be visited by the Future High Streets Forum judging panel made up of industry leaders from across retail, property and business.
If successful, Bridgnorth, will win a share of the cash prize pot, and dedicated support and mentoring from industry experts which could range from one to one coaching to advice on digital marketing.
South Shropshire MP Philip Dunne said: “I am delighted that Bridgnorth is now a finalist in the Large Market Town category of the Great British High Street Awards. This year’s competition received a record number of nominations, making Bridgnorth’s success in making the final shortlist even more impressive, though well deserved.
"I hope we will see great support for Bridgnorth from people across the Ludlow Constituency in the public vote. This is a real chance to gain just recognition for Bridgnorth, adding yet another accolade to add to South Shropshire’s impressive collection.”
Now in its 3rd year, the competition celebrates the great work that is being done to revive, adapt and diversify the nation’s high streets and is an opportunity for councils, businesses, community groups and volunteers to learn from the very best.
Last year’s competition saw a record-breaking 230 entries and attracted over 200,000 public votes, with Bishy Road in York, a former finalist, crowned Britain’s best.
The competition is designed to help revitalise high streets by promoting the great work that is being done and sharing good ideas across the country.
