A 27 year-old man from Market Drayton has been arrested following an attempted robbery in the town.

Arrest made following attempted robbery in Market Drayton

Between 8.20pm and 8.35pm on Sunday 16 October, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 60s were walking along Hospital Lane when an unknown man followed them and then attempted to take the woman's handbag from her.

The victim kept hold of her handbag but fell to the ground, which caused her to sustain injuries to her forehead.

The suspect then left the scene on foot in the direction of Shrewsbury Road. He is described as being dressed in black; wearing black bottoms with a vertical white stripe and a black hooded top. It is believed that he did not speak during the incident.

Investigating officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have any information. Please call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident number 641S of 16 October 2016.

Alternatively, information can be given to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or via Crimestoppers.org.uk

The man arrested in connection with the incident is currently on police bail until 6 December 2016.
