Open day for new Whitchurch medical practice
People in a Shropshire town will be able to get a first look at their new GP surgery at an open day next week.

Work on completing the refurbishment of the new Claypit Street Medical Practice in Whitchurch will have been completed ahead of the official launch date on Monday, October 31.
Following the closure of the Richmond House GP surgery in Whitchurch, Shropdoc has taken on the contract, ensuring all patients affected have the option to be taken on by the new practice.
Senior Members of Shropdoc, supported by Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group and Whitchurch Town Councillor Gerald Dakin will celebrate the opening of Claypit Street Medical Practice at a special event on Monday.
The medical practice will be open from 11am to 12pm where visitors are welcome to view the new premises and meet members of the team.
Daniel Robinson, senior project manager at Shropdoc, said: “The new surgery is ready to launch and we are delighted that Councillor Gerald Dakin will be performing the opening.
“It will give the people of Whitchurch the opportunity to get a first glimpse of the new surgery, to have a good look around and get a feel for the place.
“Shropdoc have taken on this contract and have been working extremely hard to put everything in place to deliver a good quality service from October 31.
“It was important for things to run as smoothly and seamlessly as possible to lessen any impact on the patients affected by the closure of the previous practice.”
Mr Robinson said existing GPs will be supporting the handover period and Shropdoc was working with them on longer term plans.
GPs at the new surgery will be employed on long-term contracts and Mr Robinson said work was ongoing to retain existing GPs where possible.
“However, we may need to look at taking on temporary staff in the short-term in order for us to establish the service quickly after the launch date,” he added.
“It has been a major task getting all this into place in a relatively short space of time and the needs of the patients were always paramount. We are pleased with the way things have panned out and are delighted to be able to announce our opening as quickly as we have.
“We hope as many people as possible turn out on the day to see their new surgery in Whitchurch.”
