Two females seen being put into car were taken home following night out in Wellington

Police investigating a report of two females being put forcibly into a car on Glebe Street, Wellington, in the early hours of yesterday have confirmed they have identified two girls involved in the incident and that they were not at any risk.

Officers responded to a report from a member of the public who witnessed the incident that occurred at around 12.25am.

After issuing an appeal for information and receiving several calls from the public, officers can confirm that they have identified the driver of the car and two girls involved and that the girls were not at any risk.

The car was initially described as a Mercedes but it later transpired it was an Audi.

Detective Sergeant Craig Smith said: "We'd like to thank everyone who responded to our appeal for information, this was a very concerning set of circumstances and we were very keen to ensure the safety of the two girls.

"One of the calls received was from the parent of one of the girls who confirmed that she and her husband were in the car. They had gone out to pick up their daughter from Glebe Street after receiving a call from the other girl to say their daughter had had too much to drink and needed to be taken home.

"We have been out to speak to the parents and both the girls and we are satisfied with their accounts and that they were not hurt or in danger in any way.

"We believe the initial report was made in good faith and would like to thank the caller for their concern."
