Police in Shrewsbury are appealing for witnesses after a miniature Jack Russell was injured in an unprovoked attack by another dog.

Police appeal after Jack Russell is attacked by another dog in Shrewsbury

It happened outside Brooklands Pub near to Brooklands Hotel on Mill Road between 1.30pm and 2pm on Saturday.

A woman was walking her Jack Russell when another dog - believed to be a black Staffordshire Bull Terrier - began attacking it.

The owner of the other dog then ran over and eventually managed to rescue the Jack Russell, which was subsequently treated for cuts to his neck and head. .

The man is described as in his late 20s with blond short brown hair, of medium build, and around 5ft 6in tall. He was wearing a brown puffa-style jacket at the time of the incident and had a skateboard under his arm.

It is thought a number of people could have seen the attack as there was a match at Shrewsbury Town Football Club and officers also believe some members of security at the Brooklands Hotel may have captured the incident on their mobile phones.

Police are also keen to speak with a couple in their 50s in a silvery blue car who were leaving Brooklands Pub at the time of the attack.

Anyone with information or who recognises the description of the dog's owner should call West Mercia Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident 0565S of November 5.
