Police in Shrewsbury are investigating an armed robbery in which staff at a bookmakers shop were threatened with a gun.

Staff at Shrewsbury bookmakers threatened with gun during armed robbery

The incident happened between 7.20pm and 7.30pm last night, at Coral bookmakers in Mytton Oak Road.

A man entered the shop and pointed what is believed to be a black hand gun at two male members of staff. He handed them a bag and told them to put money in it, which they did, and then left the shop.

It is believed that he might have run down an alleyway which leads to Crowmeole Drive.

The offender was wearing dark clothing, a balaclava and gloves and might have been carrying a yellow JD sports bag.

No-one was injured during the incident but the two members of staff were very shaken.

DC Steve Lloyd, from Shrewsbury CID, said: "This was obviously a very frightening incident for the members of staff but thankfully no-one was injured.

"We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area last night and saw the man or has any information which might help us."

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111 or via their website www.crimestoppers-uk.org quoting incident 655S of 11 November.
