A rat has caused the Column Restaurant at Shirehall in Shrewsbury to close.

Rat forces closure of Shropshire Council's Column Restaurant

The rat is believed to have entered the restaurant at Shirehall over the weekend.

The restaurant was immediately closed, and a thorough deep clean of both the seating area and the kitchen has been carried out.

The council’s Environmental Health and Pest Control officers are monitoring the situation.

To eliminate any potential risk to staff and customers the restaurant will remain closed until its certain that the rat is no longer on the premises.

Checks are also being carried out to make sure no damage has been caused to electrical equipment and steps taken to prevent further visits from unwanted guests in the future.

The Column restaurant has a top ‘5’ rating in the government’s food hygiene standard ratings.
