River searched in Shrewsbury after person is reported to have entered the water

The person is reported to have gone into the river at the rear of Shrewsbury Sixth Form College on Victoria Avenue.

The search began at around 11.50pm with three fire appliances including the water rescue unit mobilised from Shrewsbury.

West Mercia Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service also assisted at the scene.

A full search of the river was carried out but no person was found in the water and the search was called off around an hour later.

West Mercia Police say the search will resume this morning.

A spokesperson said: "We do not have any missing persons reported at this time. Witnesses are sure it was a person, and we are concerned."

Anyone with information, is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting 857S141216.
