West Mercia Police and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service searched a length of the river along Smithfield Road.

The National Police Air Service was also called to assist with a wider search.

The incident happened close to the bus station at around 4pm.

On Monday police issued the following statement via Twitter:

We received a call yesterday afternoon reporting that a male had possibly entered the river at Smithfield Road. Following searches by @SFRS_Shrews & @NPASBirmingham and a full investigation by Officers, we believe that no one actually entered the water. 1/2 https://twitter.com/ShrewsburyCops/status/973170552784515072?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
