More than 50 firefighters at scene of woodland fire near Minsterley

Crews were called to the area known as The Bog at around 2.40pm.

Fire appliances including the landrover pump, light pumping unit, the water carrier and welfare unit were mobilised from Bishops Castle, Bridgnorth, Church Stretton, Clun, Minsterley, Newport and Shrewsbury. Operations, Hazmat and Safety officers attended the scene.

A crew from Montgomery fire station of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service also assisted at the scene along with a team from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service who used their drone to identify any hot spots.

Firefighters used beaters, hosereel and main jets to tackle the fire. Working in difficult terrain conditions they prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

West Mercia Police, Shropshire Council and a utility company were also at the scene in the multi-agency operation.

On Wednesday morning Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire had been extinguished but a small number of crews remained at the scene to dampen down.
