Telford hotel’s food business fined for string of food hygiene offences

THG No.3 Ltd based in Honiley, Warwick, is the food business operator of Mercure Telford Madeley Court Hotel which was visited by Telford & Wrekin Council’s food hygiene inspectors on 27 February last year following a complaint from a member of the public.

Shropshire Magistrates Court sitting in Telford yesterday heard that kitchens in both the main hotel and in the Mill House which is a wedding venue were “filthy’.

Among the inspectors’ findings were a dirty kitchen, refrigerators, chiller and freezer, dirty floors in the Mill House bar and breakfast server and dirty wash hand basins in the Mill House. Damaged was also found on kitchen walls and floor, a ceiling and freezers.

Rusty shelving was also noted along with a damaged ice scoop left in contact with ice in the ice machine which carries with it a risk of contamination.

THG No.3 Ltd pleaded guilty to five charges. It was fined £20,000 and ordered to pay £1,620 in costs.
