£1m to be invested in regeneration of older estates in Telford

Telford & Wrekin Council is to invest £1m over the next two years to regenerate the borough’s older estates.
The cash will ensure that older estates alongside the newer communities benefit from investment - ensuring communities across the Borough see improvements.
The regeneration will include tackling local issues including problem sites, improving the public areas and shopping parades and resolving infrastructure challenges.
Infrastructure improvements will also complement already announced investments through the Pride In Our Community and Pride In Our High Streets funds.
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Economic Development, said: “Telford is absolutely unique in its geography linking new communities with old and in our continued speed of growth and that means we have to develop specially designed schemes to ensure investment reaches communities across the borough.
“Some of the borough’s older areas including estates that were developed when Telford first came into being very much fall into this category.
“I am delighted that we are able to commit this fund to make a difference to these areas and I am looking forward to working with partners including Parish and Town Councils to identify how it can best be spent.
“We have already identified some specific schemes in places like Stirchley, Randlay and Donnington but I anticipate we will be making more announcements in the coming months when some of that partnership working has developed further.”
Telford & Wrekin Council is also investigating the scope for regeneration schemes in other areas of the borough including Hollinswood, Aqueduct, Overdale and Woodside.
