Police issue warning over rogue traders operating in Telford

Police have issued a warning for residents to be on their guard following reports
rogue traders are operating in Wellington and Shawbirch.
Rogue traders call door to door offering building, home improvement and garden maintenance services for unnecessary work at inflated prices.
It is not unusual for the rogue traders to falsely claim to be from a well-known trader and provide false credentials, such as a false business address.
Sergeant Dan Taylor is from the North Telford Safer Neighbourhood Team that covers the area said:
"It's unfortunate that not everyone who calls at the door is genuine or who they claim to be and with spring and, hopefully, some good weather fast approaching we know that many homeowners will look to carry out home and garden projects.
"However, at the same time we know there will rogue traders looking to cash in on this and would urge people to be on their guard as we don't want them to be duped out of their money.
"Our message is don't be pressurised into paying for work, take your time and do your research before entering into an agreement and always be cautious when being asked to pay up front.
"Often the offenders will target elderly or vulnerable people, they can be incredibly convincing and worry them into thinking it is absolutely necessary for the work to be carried out and we would urge anyone who does have an elderly or vulnerable relative, friend or neighbour to make sure they're aware that these people are not always as genuine as they seem."
